Golden Retrievers

We are Kathryn & Paul van den Berg, who alongside our Golden Retrievers, enjoy a wonderful country lifestyle in Paengaroa, Bay of Plenty. We are passionate about the Golden Retriever, they are a huge part of our lives.  

At Kavandale we are producing top quality Golden Retrievers, sound in mind and body. They have the true Golden Retriever temperament being happy, confident and biddable dogs.

Our Story

Our Golden Retriever journey began in 1995 with Bernie, from the late Margaret Evans (Vanrose Kennels). Bernie was everything we thought a Golden should be and he ignited our passion for the breed.  April arrived in 1996 from Vanrose Kennels and she became our foundation bitch.  Our first litter was born in 1998.

Our beautiful Stella (Champion Hawkwood Iduna) arrived in 2005.  She was bred by our good friend Gayle Gill, Hawkwood, using UK Champion Stanroph So It Had To Be.  Stella had much success in the show ring and was a very influential breeding bitch in NZ.  Stella had three litters and produced seven show champions.  She is the mother of our special boy Ely, Specialist Grand Champion Kavandale Take a Chance on Me.

In 2015 Trinny (Champion Chaleur Quickstep) arrived from Ruth and Phil Thompson, Chaleur Kennels, Australia. Trinny has produced our fabulous Chance (Champion Kavandale Chance to Step Up) and lovely Cha-cha (Kavandale Time to Cha-cha).

Paul and I are continuously improving our Goldens and keep in contact with top breeders around the world.  We are fortunate to have the friendship and guidance of Henric Frycstrand of the famous Dewmist Kennels, Sweden.

We are proud that several top NZ breeders have chosen Kavandale Goldens for use in their breeding programmes.  

With exciting plans for the future, we continue our wonderful journey with our Golden Retrievers.
